Authorities report that a Madisonville man was killed in a crash on I-69 in Webster County while fleeing from the scenes of two earlier incidents.
The incidents began around 12:20 Saturday afternoon when the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies responded to a vehicle-pedestrian collision on West Lake Loop in Madisonville. Upon arrival, deputies said they found that 61-year-old William Holmes had sped out of his driveway in the 200 block of West Lake Loop, crossed the road, and drove his pickup truck into a neighboring yard, striking 48-year-old Shannon King while she was raking leaves.
According to deputies, Holmes then returned to West Lake Loop and drove into the driveway in the 100 block of West Lake Loop, where Russell Brother was sitting in a chair with his child in the backyard. He told deputies that they were able to move out of the chair just before the truck struck it, leaving them unharmed.
Authorities said Shannon was taken by EMS to Baptist Health Deaconess, where she was flown to another hospital.
About 20 minutes after the first incident, Kentucky State Police Post 2 said they were contacted to investigate a three-vehicle fatal collision on I-69 in Webster County.
State police reported Holmes was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of I-69 when he collided with a semi-truck driven by Elizabeth Duporte-Hobson from Palm Coast, Florida, and then struck another vehicle driven by Robyn Crain of Dover, Tennessee.
State police said Holmes was pronounced dead on the scene by the Webster County Coroner. Duporte-Hobson was taken by ambulance to a hospital for minor injuries, while authorities said Crain was uninjured in the collision.
State police are continuing to investigate the fatal crash.
