Mayor Kevin Cotton and Judge-Executive Jack Whitfield, Jr. have officially declared February as American Heart Month in Madisonville and Hopkins County through a joint proclamation signed last week.
Mayor Cotton presented the joint proclamation at the city council meeting on Monday night.

click to download audioAmerican Heart Month was initially proclaimed by President Lyndon B. Johnson in December 1963, with the first observance occurring in February 1964. The initiative was created to tackle the increasing concern over heart disease and to promote awareness and education about cardiovascular health.
