Gov. Beshear Recommends Madisonville Trail for Federal Funding

Governor Andy Beshear announced on Thursday that eight projects across Kentucky, including one in the City of Madisonville, are being recommended for federal funding as part of the Recreational Trails Program.

During his Team Kentucky Update, Gov. Beshear announced that the eight projects are a part of the Recreational Trail Program, funded by the Federal Highway Administration, which will undergo review at the federal level. He said that this program helps communities in building, maintaining, and enhancing walking, biking, and motorized trails. Beshear also mentioned that they have recommended funding to complete the walking trail in Madisonville.

click to download audioHe stated that they are seeking more than $1.4 million in federal funding this year for the Recreational Trails Program.

Each project will undergo an individual review at the federal level before any funding is released. The initial step in securing this funding is the selection of projects at the state level. The Kentucky Department for Local Government is responsible for administering both programs.
