An investigation into a shoplifting incident at a Madisonville business led to the arrest of two Hopkins County residents on multiple charges.

According to Madisonville Police, officers responded to a complaint at Rural King after a woman in pajama bottoms exited through the emergency door with unpaid items. Police said video surveillance also showed a man leaving with merchandise before her.

A few hours later, police located the vehicle and individuals at the intersection of Hospital and North Kentucky Avenue and conducted a traffic stop. Police said 31-year-old Brandon Marlow of Nortonville admitted he and his girlfriend, 20-year-old Ashlyn White, of Madisonville, had stolen the items.

During a search of the vehicle, police said they found two trail cams and a container of horse medicine that was taken from Rural King. They also reportedly found a baggie with five white pills, a straw with white residue, a smoking pipe, and a green leafy substance suspected to be synthetic marijuana.

Marlow and White were taken into custody and charged with theft. Marlow was also charged with possession of a prescription controlled substance not in a proper container, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
