A fire caused minor damage to a Madisonville church last week.

The Madisonville Fire Department reported firefighters received a call Thursday morning about a fire that had been extinguished at Christ the King Church located at 1600 Kingsway Drive.

When firefighters arrived at the church and entered the lobby, they reportedly found that the fire had already been extinguished. According to the report, the fire originated in the closet containing the pump and water heater for the baptismal pool. Firefighters said the fire caused a water line to rupture, which extinguished the flames and confined the damage to the closet area.

After the building was deemed safe, firefighters returned to the station.

It is reported that the fire caused an estimated $15,000 in damage, with $10,000 attributed to property damage and $5,000 to damage of contents.
