Hopkins Grand Jury Issues Indictments for Child Exploitation, Rape and Robbery

A Hopkins County Grand Jury issued a series of indictments in December, including on charges of child exploitation, rape, theft, and robbery.

The grand jury indicted William Mayes of Madisonville on five counts of possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor under 12 years of age and second-degree persistent felony offender.

The charges stem from October 22, 2024, when Madisonville Police said someone turned in a cell phone they found in the area of Hodge Street that had child sexual abuse material on it. Police got a search warrant for the phone and determined it belonged to Mayes, who was arrested after a further investigation.

Kevin Ramirez of Madisonville was indicted on two counts of second-degree rape of a minor less than 14 years of age, and two counts of custodial interference from an incident on October 4, 2024.

A true bill was returned on Steven Taylor of Earlington on a single count of theft by unlawful taking over $1,000 but under $10,000. Taylor is accused of taking a wallet containing $1,100 in cash on October 14, 2024.

Brandon Vincent of Newburgh, Indiana was indicted on charges of first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery, and two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, from an incident on October 21, 2024.

A true bill was returned on Samantha Knight on a single felony charge of theft by unlawful taking over $1,000 but under $10,000. The indictment alleges the theft occurred between July 27, 2024, and August 15, 2024.
